make your own: cowl cap.

March 17, 2022

For a little something different, Rose and I teamed up with Misha & Puff to develop a project to make with their beautiful yarn. Just one skein is all you need to make a cowl that turns into a cap! Our simple beginner’s pattern is free and it’s up along with an interview on the Misha and Puff journal today. We’d love for you to check it out!

It’s a great idea and a very sweet project for new knitters. And for us more experienced folk, it’s the perfect way to make something beautiful and functional from our left over yarns.

I too had been a rectangular knitter in college. But this feels accessible enough that I can maybe knit my kids a couple cowl caps for next fall/winter. Also what a lovely reason to go into our local yarn shop!

cute / i’m excited to try one of the patterns! so far i’ve only knit a couple of swatches but i love watching them grow and how soft it feels in my hands – it’s my go-to when i’m feeling anxious 🙂 ps. for any fellow new learners – sheep and stitch has great tutorials/how i taught myself

So excited to try this! We are doing a waldorf-inspired homeschool, and knitting is on the agenda (I think traditionally starts in 1st grade at Waldorf schools). I taught both my 5th grader and 2nd grader this year. Both “got” it, but my second grader enjoyed it more. I think I’m going to make them do this as an assignment. They might just finish by next winter! haha. This is really cool, Erin. I know it must take time to do something like this, but I hope you can do more similar collabs!

Did you use the entire skein of 160+ yards? I have some ultrasoft merino already in my yarn stash, but it’s a mere 130 yards. Not sure if that would be quite enough.

Oh, we had a small bit of the skein left over after our cowls, but I would guess it was somewhat closer to 15 yards than 30…still, probably doable with what you have!
