john foster from accidental mysteries has done it again. everyday, he curates beautiful mini exhibitions on his blog and sends me swooning over folk art, snapshots, and sketches. if you like museums, funky art, and thoughtful analysis, add accidental mysteries to your reader.
this morning, john’s focusing on the beauty of accidents in old film–light leaks, damaged film, double exposures–that can lead to photos with just a little bit of something that wasn’t expected. since starting this little blog o’ mine, i’ve become fascinated by all of the amazing photography that graces my computer screen each day, much of it taken with vintage cameras. so last weekend, when i stumbled upon this lady…
i didn’t buy her. gah! as you can see, she is very lovely, and the man behind the table assured me that she can still kick it old school. but i just didn’t know. so what do you think dear readers? can i get film to make this little gem tick? should i rush back this saturday and see if she’s still waiting for me? i’m itching for some accidental beauty.
{p.s. how much do you want that bathing suit???}

Oh yes, go back! Even if it doesn’t work or you don’t like shooting with it, I think these old cameras are so great on display, especially when one of your loves is photography.
Buy it! Buy it!
Definitely buy it 🙂
i gotta agree!! go back, you'll be glad you did. i love old cameras & old typewriters.
and the bathing suit – adorable!!
Buy it!! 🙂
you should totally buy it!
i have no clue if it’ll work but it be nice to have around, no?
How fun would it be to use that little vintage camera… go get it!
Take the leap, hun!
you should get some film and go back to test it out. If it does work, you’d be so excited to have such a cool toy
I have 3 like this and have always wondered if I could get them working, for the exact purpose of taking some wonderful messed up artsy pics. Not sure where I could get film though. This website has some good info and might sell it http://www.keh.com ! Jenny
those photos are amazing, and, you’re right, the blog world is full of amazing photography. amazing!!! blows my mind.
i think you should buy the camera as long as it’s not too expensive. it would be a really fun project to see what you can do with it.
thanks for the intro to his work…amazing.
and i say go back to see if she’s there!
I know your dilemma. I bought an Instamatic a few years from now, and I still can’t find any film for it… In an other hand, who knows what terrible destiny awaits this cutie if you don’t buy it?
i don’t know anything about old cameras (even though i inherited two), but i most definitely think you should go get her.
(..and then tell me how to work it!)
Yes, go get it. You’ll only regret it if you don’t 🙂
p.s. love the blog!
you have no money. you are working at a sushi bar. you already have a camera.
just saying.
(just kidding, i love you. i am the ultimate hedonist, so i cannot tell a lie: get the camera. get the camera. and just for good measure, get some ice cream on the way home. )
get it! you can always use it for TtV! http://www.russmorris.com/ttv/
I love that camera!
I feel the same way whenever I see old cameras like that in little antique shops and flea markets. Maybe there’s a Flickr group that’s focused on vintage cameras who might know more on the film dilemma.
