Tip #72: Employ icy footrests.

The evenings around here lately have been a marathon of foot propping. If my feet swell this much from the heat, I’m afraid to think what they might look like if I’m ever pregnant. Sausages is the best metaphor.
To combat the sausage-foot phenomenon, James and I have been taking ice packs from the freezer and putting them on our chairs with kitchen towels draped over them.
“Would you like a chilled footrest, madame?”
“Why yes, monsieur. And while you’re up, something cold to drink.”
We’ve been passing the evenings listlessly with our two fans pointed directly at us until the moment when our eyelids feel like they might fall off from the assault of wind power and we’re forced to direct them elsewhere for a bit. The condensation from our water glasses has ruined just about every surface in apartment (suggestions for beautiful coasters, welcome). Skin-to-skin contact feels like an oven scorch.
But! We have chilled footrests and each others’ company. All this to say, it’s hot and a little resourcefulness goes an awfully long way in a small apartment.

Haha! I took an ice pack to bed with me last night, it was a life saver. We got married a few weeks ago and got back from our (hot, but poolside!) honeymoon to this heatwave… It's so hot that we haven't even really been able to snuggle except in small bursts before a shower! Too hot!
One summer I visited my sister in Wisconsin. The heat was absolutely stifling, but because it doesn't last long most homes don't have air there. It was brutal. It was all we could do to get up and move to the other side of her apartment. We ended up soaking our bathing suits in water and putting them in the freezer, so that we could wear them around her house. It sounds like a joke, but it was the sweetest relief to wear them around her apartment. I am not even kidding!
weeks like this make me wish i had a reprieve at home from the heat. dips in the ocean it is!

We are lucky enough to have A/C but chilled footrests are enough to make me want to turn it off completely. Such a lovely idea!

I have beaded coasters but in the summertime they are not very good for sweating drinks. I have resorted to using pretty colored wash clothes. They work great and I just throw them in the washer after a few days. No rings on my tables either. They might not be the classiest but they do the job and I did not need to go buy anything new. Hope that helps. 😀

Haha…word on the skin to skin contact. No AC means summertime is decidedly not the most romantic season in our apartment…!
My feet swell horribly in the heat as well, yet they were never swollen at all with either of my two pregnancies. So there's hope for you. Also, small, folded napkins make very pretty coasters, and then you don't have to buy coasters to clutter up your tiny apartment.

We've been sleeping on ice packs. They are life savers those frozen things.
Love your posts. As for coasters, I do like the pretty washcloth idea. Or, what about a flower pot base. You know those terra cotta ones, or ceramic whatever you have. They not only have a lip, but do tend to absorb moisture.
In washington we know humid. I've given up on coasters, too tiny to absorb the amount of water DC will condense on a cold drink. Because we're likely to leave a damp towel on the furniture to mildew, I go for saucers or those small decorative trays I always seem to accumulate. A bonus is that they also nicely corral the random pocket change, thimbles, etc that seem to appear.
