Morning coffee lately includes a shaving or three of nutmeg and steamed milk. There’s no special recipe or step-by-step, but I thought you might like to know.
And, of course, I’m curious:
What fancy additions are you making to your morning cup these days? ‘Tis the season, after all.

genius, erin! thank you for this.
love your mugs! š
Oh, I'd like to say I'm a coffee purist, but really I'm just lazy/boring. I like my coffee straight-up with a hit of fresh cream :-).
I second Ana's comment – I love those mugs! Tapered at the top is key – keeps the heat in!
Thanks for the idea!!!
oooh, I have tried cinnamon but not nutmeg, I'l have to give that a shot. Where do you get whole nutmeg? And yes, where are those fabulous (tapered) mugs from? š
Peppermint mochas – Trader Joe's hot chocolate with peppermint is yummy. Eggnog lattes. Now you have me wanting to make another morning cup with a few twists of fresh ground nutmeg. Think I will. š
Woohoo! Keep those ideas rolling! Our mugs are from Bennington Potters! We love them.
I've been enjoying soy eggnog in my coffee every morning since Thanksgiving, I bet the nutmeg would be a nice addition!
SOY EGGNOG WHERE IS THIS COMING FROM I MUST HAVE
I've purchased mine at a variety of stores: Whole Foods, Stop and Shop, even Target! It's Silk brand, which is pretty easy to come by.
I like to sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon in the grounds. It warms it right up.
I pretty much put cinnamon into anything these days but haven't tried it with my morning coffee so far. Will do tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!
Delight! I've actually been sprinkling nutmeg in my grounds this fall, a great compliment to a dark roast . . . but I confess to preground – not freshly-grated.
And I agree with all above: really great mugs.
kindred spirits. my boyfriend studied ceramics at bennington! i know that place well. your taste is unparalleled my friend. i will be sure to sprinkle some nutmeg into my mug tomorrow morning.
thanks, friend. that man o' yours sounds dreamy.
I got married in Bennington and every anniversary, we treat ourselves to a new piece. I thought those mugs looked pleasantly familiar. š
What an awesome tradition!
i've done cinnamon in the past, but recently i've been drinking coffee from 44 north coffee (www.44northcoffee.com) and it needs NOTHING ELSE to make it that perfect cup!!
confession: i never dreamed of putting the spices in with the *grounds*! amazing revelation!
Eggnog. And one evening, peppermint schnapps, peppermint ice cream and a dallop of chocolate whipped cream. With a few Christmas sprinkles on top just to look pretty.
i don't think i've ever had peppermint in coffee–but it sounds like you guys like it!
mmm! I have not tried putting spices into my coffees yet, not even cinnamon. With the holidays on its way, sounds like the perfect time to start. But I have replaced sugar with agave nectar!
A pinch of powdered chili in my mocha and pumpkin spice in my eggnog latte š
We love to add the sugar-free Torani syrups to our coffee – Vanilla is our favorite.
I can't stop drinking "peppermint" things.
Stick a candy cane in. The bottom will melt, you'll finish your drink, and then have the top left to freshen your breath. (Mastered the art of drinking my breakfast on the subway.)
A candy cane in regular old coffee? Steeling my nerves!
This sounds amazing! I add peppermint to my hot chocolate at this time of year, but that's about all! x
Nutmeg sounds perfect (note to self: must go to store tonight)!
At the office we get "pumpkin pie spice" which is premixed cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice and mix it in with our tea or coffee. We also use hot cocoa mix and add that to our coffee too.
I don't know if I'd be brave enough for all of that at once. Ground ginger in coffee though? Might try!
I sprinkle a little ground cardamom into my morning coffee when I need a little extra decadence!
Mmm!
Ah, I love nutmeg. This sounds just right.
Cinnamon and soymilk. Ahh now I want a cup.
Love this! I always add cinnamon š
maple syrup š
Oh! We have little maple sugar chips–might try tomorrow!
we like to add a little bit of diced vanilla bean. And nibbling on them as you sip is quite a treat.
Soy egg nog instead of milk in my coffee! Its so good!
Might seem funny, but I like a drop or two of lavender oil in my Chai. Yesterday I found a recipe for Dandelion Hot Cocoa – it's a must try, of course. š
I prefer frozen blended coffee like Frappuccinos(especially with chocolate syrup on top), but the picture of your coffee with the nutmeg looks really good. Maybe I should reconsider my stance on coffee. š
no fancy add-ins as of late for me…but this is inspiring! sounds so perfect for winter.
I'm afraid that at home I drink more pots of tea than coffee. What seasonal teas I've been drinking are: Roasted Chestnut or Apple Cider Spice. Both are from The Tea Source, http://www.teasource.com.
I tried peppermint schnapps in homemade hot cocoa for the first time, that was delicious. Mostly just lots of peppermint tea, although that's nothing too new š
this looks so beautiful it's making me emotional.
not really,
actually no- totally crying over the beauty of nutmeg coffee.
I bought peppermint swirl marshmallows and I have been adding them to my coffee each morning! So yummy!! =)
