If you’ve been hanging around these tea leaves for awhile, you might remember that when I first began writing in this space, I was living in Wilmington, North Carolina. If you’ve got a real mind for biographical details, you might also remember that James and I met while working in Georgia. All this to say that while neither of us are full-fledged Southeasterners, we have a sweet spot for that corner of the country. Van Horn Sandwich Shop on Court Street does a good job of giving us a little taste of what we’re missing. On nights when I feel like I can’t possibly lift a skillet to the stove, Van Horn’s sweet PLT (sweet potato, lettuce & tomato) does the trick instead and I’ve ordered it more times than I could possibly count. Crunchy sweet potatoes and a big old smear of garlic aioli make it the perfect comfort food. Next time you find yourself in the neighborhood and hungry, this is your spot. Just make sure to wave if you see me sitting there with my sweet PLT.

looks amazing. i was so infatuated with brooklyn, if only for the cute hidden bistro on EVERY SINGLE CORNER. it was incredible! i don't know how i'd ever eat in if i lived there.
Yum! Isn't it great finding local spots and making them yours? I do love a good fried green tomato sandwich and will miss them when we move away from Georgia. However, this sweet PLT is inspiring.
Hopefully when I go to NYC in May, I will be able to make my way into Brooklyn. That looks like one of those little hidden gems of the city. Thanks for sharing š
Looks divine xx
Beautiful photographs. I would love to visit that restaurant. xoxo
Oh my, that sandwich looks amazing. That made me so hungry just looking at it. Unfortunately, living near the west coast of Canada makes it a little far to go for lunch.
I went to UNCW! Such a beautiful area! As a fellow New Yorker, I certainly miss it…
Erica, you must know Wilmington well, then! James did his graduate work there!
sweet PLT? This exists? … get into my mouth right now. š

looks like my kind of spot, especially with the wild blooms on the table. i'll have to stop in next time i'm in nyc.
I like that restaurant; it looks more like a comfortable kitchen that people would eat in than a regular restaurant.
can't wait to pay a visit! š
This looks so close! I'm going to have to go!
I took my boyfriend and best friend here on Saturday per your recommendation. It was AMAZING. Perfect lunch spot on a relaxing Saturday. Thank you!
Not only are we more than likely neighbors, I am a recent newbie from NC. Van Horn will make you pimento cheese fries using sweet potato fries if you ask nicely, and up your southern twang when you do it. Now only if they had Cheerwine!
hi, neighbor! court street grocer has cheerwine!
