on sunday afternoon our friends carrie and damien ran (yes, literally) to our house armed with bags of fresh veggies to help restore our energies and spirits. among the bounty were garlic scapes–some of the best green things this season has to offer and an incredibly welcome treat. i blended them together with almonds and parmesan, olive oil and salt, to make a garlicy pesto. tossed into whole wheat fettucini, we couldn’t have asked for a more comforting lunch. to all of you who offered so many kind wishes of love and support, we are extremely grateful. thank you for thinking of us. may you also have big bowls pasta with garlic scape pesto to keep you sustained in times of trouble.
garlic scape pesto, a sort-of recipe
6-10 garlic scapes
a handful (or about 1/3 of a cup) of roasted almonds
a handful (or about 1/3 cup) of grated parmesan cheese
several glugs (or about 1/2 cup) of olive oil
blend all ingredients together in a food processor (or blender or mortar and pestle). begin with about half of the olive oil and then add the rest after you’ve started blending. add a healthy dose of coarse sea salt. spoon mixture onto pasta, whisk into salad dressing, spread on toast–whatever soothes you.

I'm glad to hear things are on the mend. What a scare.
Garlic scape pesto is, perhaps, the best form of pesto. It's got all of the flavor and none of the bite. Hope all that garlic did it's job and healed you both!
This sounds heavenly!
Keeping you and your love in my thoughts and prayers! It's a beautiful thing to realize how much you love someone. Hold tightly to it. IT will make your wedding even more beautiful!
i made garlic scape pesto this weekend too…on pizza. so glad to hear that james is okay. it infuriates me that i see drivers run through red lights almost every day. someone else was killed over the weekend crossing atlantic ave š there's a rally for traffic justice at city hall on june 11 if you're into that kind of thing. http://transalt.org/events/calendar/6203.
so terribly sad. thanks for the link.
yum.
i can't believe i somehow missed seeing what happened… i'm so sorry to hear about james's accident! so glad to hear that he will be okay, and isn't it wonderful that out of the most horrible occurrences, we can be reminded to count our blessings and be thankful to have the ones we love, and that something worse didn't happen. sending lots of love and hugs your way, and of course the essence of our fresh farmer's market veggies from ontario š
thank you, meg.
hope you + james are doing ok. there's nothing like homecooked yummy food to cure what ails.
that's what we're hoping! thanks for your note!
you make the best food.
Salute… to health, to a good life, to big bowls of pasta.
