couchblanket

Tip #44: Invest in a throw blanket.

I’ve been sitting on this post for awhile (pun intended). Part of me felt just a little bit embarrassed to share what is, admittedly, one of the less-than-charming habits I’ve acquired since moving into this tiny space.

I’m obsessed with our couch and I leap to its defense, daily.

Obsessed is a word that gets thrown around a lot in blogging. I’m obsessed with these pajamas. I’m obsessed with this hair style. I’m obsessed with my belly button. You get it.

And still. I’m obsessed with our couch. Specifically, I’m obsessed with the cleanliness of our couch. In general I try to avoid partaking in any kind of homemaking ritual that involves extra fussiness, but this beaut didn’t come with removable slip covers and its frequent use as staging area for crafts,  dinner, Christmas card-writing and present-wrapping means that I’m more than a little protective.  Even if it means a little extra step, I’d much rather put a throw blanket into the wash than struggle to remove mashed in chocolate crumbs or sloshed cups of tea. When we’re not munching on the poor thing, I fold up the blanket and put it away. And in my defense, I do try to stop myself from tucking the blanket under our guests.

I completely agree with this entire post! haha! I just upgraded from my college futon (which was four years old-longer than any futon should have to endure) and got a real life big girl couch! And for some reason I thought black out be great with a white cat! So I definitely use blankets entirely too much! and it doesn't help that any time I venture into Target my first destination point is the blanket section, hoping to add to my already outrageous collection. But what can I say I like to be clean and cozy! haha

Nothing wrong with a cozy collection! If we had the space, I'd load up, too!

Lol. This reminds me of American tv series in which you see couches covered with some sort of plastic. *grin*

But a nice woollen blanket, that's just an extra lovely accessory, now isn't it? No need to apologize for that. In fact, I have to admit, since I am always, ALWAYS cold, I have multiple blankets lying around in our house, to pull over my knees when I am curled up on our couch. It's not just an accessory to me, it's a necessity! 🙂

Love your photos by the way. Gorgeous!

i agree!! we don't have a nice-looking throw though, so i neglect to do this most times, and luckily we haven't had any spills… knock on wood.

here's hoping! (our last couch had a run-in with a pint of beer, so i'm extra cautious).

I do not blame you! But it makes me more grateful for a leather couch these days… especially when we have a toddler! We bought it when we lived in a 388 sq foot studio on Capitol Hill in D.C.

yes. definitely an upside. leather couches are always so deliciously slide-y. you know what i mean? you can just slither across them!

Hahahaha I put a throw on our couch also! It has kept it safe from my husband's food many a time. Glad to know i'm not the only one 🙂

If I had a couch as beautiful as that, I would definitely do the same thing! Now I just use a throw blanket for snuggling under 🙂
