Friends, they have finally arrived. Yesterday afternoon I was crunched in front of my computer putting the finishing touches on a workshop that I’m giving today back in Providence when there was a sudden swell in the birdsong that typically accents my afternoon writing sessions. A shadow swooped in front of my window and when I peered out I saw not one, or two, or even three, but four house finches lined on my window sill waiting their turn at my makeshift feeder. I snatched at my camera and snapped these shots through our closed window, my little country heart full to bursting. Happiest wannabe birdwatcher in all of Brooklyn.
Now, how cute is that chickadee?

I love your grapefruit (orange?) bird feeder! Great idea.
What a great bird feeder. Fun idea. And oh, that little red head. Too cute!
Yesterday, in between loads of rain fall, the birds seemed to go totally ballistic in our garden. They chattered and sang like they were trying to convince us all that Spring was coming. I believe them. I so want to believe them 🙂
This is so sweet!
It brought back a memory of something that I had forgotten about. Years ago I was so excited to set up a bird feeder outside my second floor window, only to have to take it down after a few days because too many pigeons were hanging out on the ledge (moochers!). Opening my bedroom door to see a pigeon eye staring back at me was so creepy.
Oh boy. Agreed. Not sure I need any more pigeon friends!
I love that last photo! Two Finch friends sharing a meal. So sweet! 🙂
This is amazing!! Do you think birds will come join me if i'm all the way up on the 10th floor? I could use some daytime friends!
Maybe! It took the birds about two weeks to find this little guy!
brilliant idea! this is so cool. 🙂
This is so great! I've been thinking about getting a bird feeder for the fire escape outside my apartment and yours fits the bill perfectly. I think I'll have to make a little weekend project out of it.
Hope you do! Would love to see pictures!
You know, I think these might be my favourite photos I've EVER come across on a blog! Too, too gorgeous! So much love for your blog Erin, it really is wonderful.

What a lovely bird feeder! And how lucky are you that you have that to look out on while you're writing! We have a cat, otherwise I'd try to recreate the same out my window in Dublin.
We've had so much fun making birdseed ornaments and filling our feeders this winter and watching the birds come and go. This is just perfect – my little ones will love making these (and I will too, for that matter!)
One day I will have a birdfeeder because this is just too cute!! I would love to watch the birdies play and eat! =)

oh, sweet success! 🙂
I wish that I could have feeders nearer to my windows but my cat would sit inside and torment the birds; so, they will have to keep enjoying the feeders that hang from our trees.
This is a great idea!! I'm gonna have to try it!

That is an amazing idea! I need to set one up outside my window. I have a rose bush outside of it that the blue jays love to play in now.
We see bluejays in our neighbors' trees, but none at our feeder yet! (They're so big they might make it crash)!
Yay, they came! I love chickadees. They are precious.
Love watching birds around our feeder too 🙂
How cute!!!!
honestly, how beautiful are your photographs?! incredible.
birdfeeder is cute too 🙂

thanks, teeny! i was so happy they came out!
Now I hate my two cats.. No birds "knock at my windows" when they are around.. And I have a small birds house!
So cute! Love that feeder. I wish I had a feeder at my apartment. I will have to look into this.
Grapefruit for breakfast, feeder by lunch!
Adorable 🙂
What a fabulous thrifty idea, you're very clever!
Oh I love this! I'm going to make my own this weekend!
If you guys make feeders, I'd love to see your pictures!
The chickadee is my favorite, too! I'm going to have to copy this idea.
these pictures are so … precious? im not sure what word to use but it warms my heart. my apartment faces the west side highway so i dont see many birds but my alarm clock in the morning are of chirping birds!
Super, super cute! Thanks for feeding the birds!
Adorável, ótima idéia!
