life in a tiny apartment.

January 2, 2013

Tip #45: Start fresh, but slowly.

I like January. February? Give me Valentine’s Day and take the rest. March? You test my patience. But January, you feel full of promise. There’s a chill in the air that’s energizing and new candles and soaps procured at Christmas are still working their magic. This year, as in every other, I’ve gotten myself a brand new weekly planner,  jotted down a few resolutions, and stripped the apartment of most of the wintry things I added in December.

I’ve left the swag above the mirror for now, and hung up our bedraggled New Years crowns for good measure. No reason to rush things along too much. There are paperwhites shooting upward from glass bottles and a new verbena candle lit and keeping things fresh.

I’m easing into this new year. The next month will be a busy one for me and I’m steeling my nerves and buckling down. No need for huge changes right away, just a resolve to make good things happen.

i can't take down the christmas tree… i just love it too much! plus it's only 3 feet tall, so it's not too overwhelming 😉

I love the crown! I love January as well It's a new year and it's our wedding anniversary. February I love because it's my birthday and Valentine's Day. March bothers me as it's supposed to be "spring break" season but yet you still don't know what the weather may do. It's the worst month for Mother Nature that's for sure. Happy New Year!!!

I also like January, it's such a nice month. February is too valentinesy and I agree that March is tiresome. This is a really good tip, I need to de christmas at some point x

It does feel full of promise. Thanks for that insight. I tend to forget it in the chaos of travel and family.

It's just that feeling of a clean sheet, now isn't it? I love it too. Sometimes though, in the middle of the year, I just say it's the first day of a new beginning as well. You can start clean as many times as you want. But then again, it doesn't feel as real as it does in January.

Needless to say: I love it too. And I love your blog, by the way. Just found in and I certainly will be coming back.

Have a great and loving year!

I just brought down all the wintry christmas things down too, and I'm pretty surprised at how empty my home feels now! Happy 2013!

It's traditional to take midwinter/Christmas decoration down on January 6th, after Twelfth Night… 🙂

Getting a new weekly planner is my favorite part of January! All those blank pages waiting to be filled with fun times (and not-so-fun reminders!). Looking forward to reading about your adventures in the year ahead! 🙂

I love those Moleskine planners; I have several Moleskine journals that I filled up because they're so easy to write in and carry around.

Yes, there is such a sense of promise in January – if only it lasted longer!

    Happy New Year!
