my week in objects (mostly).

October 3, 2014

five little things that made my week:

1. borrowed power tools.
drill {for a little project.}

2. a brand new tea blend.
tea {to celebrate eileen fisher’s 30th anniversary. queen of the minimalist wardrobe and then some.}

3. this nightgown.
nightgown  {because they just don’t make ’em like they used to.}

4. these dried hydrangeas.
hydrangea  {because cheers to fall bouquets.}

5. this rescued thing.
stool {because it’s just what we needed.}

other things:
speaking of: i loved reading this last fall.
sustainable skivvies.
baby stripes.
i want to devour this.
useful + beautiful.
dark + beautiful.
now that’s a boot.
to rent or to buy?
woodsy.

last chance.

    Erin, a question about white paint…I know you guys have used the YOLO paint in Bisque .01 in your apartment. Is that the purest white paint you know of? Do you (or any readers) have any idea what might be an equivalent in Benjamin Moore white? Trying to nail down a crisp, non-tinted, pure white to paint a few of my own walls soon, and there are just so. many. choices.

    Also, no clue why this post made me think about white paint. Maybe the photo that shows your baseboards. (Friday Brain.)

      Hey there: The YOLO paint that we used was actually for Faye's dresser, not for our walls. It's definitely a touch creamier than an untinted white. For our walls, our landlord likely used an entirely unfancy, non zero-VOC, untinted paint from the hardware store around the corner. (And if you want untinted…you could always go for that!) But Remodelista has this post which might help narrow down your choices! (My parents swear by Benjamin Moore White Dove!)

      Good tips, thank you!

      But the White Dove is also a touch creamy, soft on the eye and heart, if that makes any sense. Not pure white in the bright-white, crisp-white-hospital-white sense.

    Hi Erin! I found your blog a while ago and I really enjoy your posts. I just listened to the podcast and I can totally relate. My husband and I live in a tiny apartment too and I actually really enjoy how we are so close to each other all the time. The previous apartment was a two bedroom and a lot of the time we were working in different rooms. I also enjoyed getting rid of so much clutter when we moved into this small space and am now trying to learn to own as little things as possible. So I'm also finding your minimalist wardrobe posts really useful 🙂

    I love Eileen Fisher clothing, and have many of her pieces in my closet. They're classics that last forever.

    erin, you know i adore your blog (and am thrilled that you seem to be posting more often), so i hesitate to say anything… but it would be fantastic if you could somehow tag which of your links go to the new york times. for those of us who can only read 10 articles a month, those 10 get used up awfully quickly when they're from surprise links, darn it. (and yes, i just realized while writing this, i'm guilty of doing the same thing on my blog. oops. off to remedy that.) xo.

      Hey Leslie! Thanks for your note and so sorry if you just used up your NYT quota! Good news though: if you hover over hyperlinks before clicking on them you should see the url appear in the status bar at the bottom right of your browser! If you don't see it, do a quick search for "status bar + name of your browser" and you can probably find a way to update your preferences so that you do! Just did a test and I can see the url when I hover on both chrome and firefox! Hope that helps!
