curbside treasures and brand new bedding.

My older sister and I are not the twins in our family, but our very similar taste in home furnishings might have you fooled. Whatever we lack in identical DNA, we make up for in our mutual fondness for simplicity and blank space and yes, a shared penchant for dragging curbside treasures into our homes. In her bedroom alone, the headboard, side chair, and ladder are all New York City street finds.

Suffice to say, we both draw the line at rescuing curbside bedding. When my sister moved back to New York City with her family this summer, she asked my advice for what kind of new bedding to invest in. The sheets and duvet cover that she and her husband had been sleeping on for the past few years had provided soft landing spots for two babies, but they needed replacing.linen bedding from parachute | reading my tea leaves

For a fresh start in a fresh city, I convinced her to try linen from Parachute. It’s an investment, no doubt, but I’ve found that our linen bedding has held up beautifully. More than that, its soft rumples adds a quiet dynamism to a room. Somehow, the wrinkles on a fluffed linen duvet look intentional and inviting—a characteristic that’s particularly helpful for a family with two little ones and a pup to boot.linen bedding from parachute | reading my tea leaves

The bedroom my sister shares with her husband is southern facing and bathed in glorious sunshine for most of the day. Like the rest of their apartment, the walls are painted white, but we opted for some subtle neutral tones to build on the warmth of the wood furnishings. (My sister’s extremely adorable black and white pup also shares her space, which helped us opt out of all stark white linens.)linen bedding from parachute | reading my tea leaves
We started with the Linen Venice Bedding Set in Fog. It’s my very favorite color from Parachute and one that I always recommend when folks are searching for something that’s not white, but not, not white. It’s the perfect—and elusive—pale gray that’s neither too green, nor too purple. For a bit of additional warmth and texture going into winter, we layered on a Parachute Quilt in White and added Quilted Shams in Oatmeal to their bolster pillows. Parachute’s quilts are linen and cotton and they’re a great weight for layering in winter or using solo in warmer weather. Linen Throw Pillows in Natural Chambray provide a bit of extra support and coziness on her bed (or couch). For daytime snuggles, we added the Double-Faced Merino Throw. It’s a very lovely blue gray that complements the Fog bedding but adds a little bit more depth (and plenty of warmth).linen bedding from parachute | reading my tea leaves

As we layered on the new bedding, the room transformed. It was lovely before, but with the addition of a few subtle shades of color and a variety of textures, the room became cozy defined.

Are you taking applications for new sisters? If so, I’d like to apply 😉

How do you keep your bedding white and unstained? Am I just bad at laundry? Those nice linens would not look so nice after a week in my life, that’s for sure. Should I stick with darker linens or is there a magic trick?

I’ve been thinking of new sheets, thanks for the heads up!

Also where is the rocking chair from?! Curbside or purchasable?

    • Reply ERIN BOYLE November 20, 2018 at 10:32 am

The rocking chair is not a curbside find! It’s a Stickley!

Thank you! I’m having a baby very soon and trying to decide whether or not to try and fit a rocking chair into my 1 BR and this one is pretty and not bulky…

It’s really lovely, though definitely an investment piece!

What a lovely and light filled bedroom! And hooray for nearby sisters. Mine lives across the street with her wife and we always joke that now neither of us can ever move because it’s the perfect situation. I have to ask, how does the ladder work with little kids around? Mine would have been trying to climb it all day long. ha!

Right this minute, my sister has a five-almost-six-year-old who knows not to climb on it and a baby who isn’t walking, so it’s just fine for the moment. Like everything else, that might shift and change as the littlest becomes more mobile!

2 questions about the linen duvet cover:
    *Is it soft
*Does it add alot of weight to your blanket

    Thank you!
