everyday minimalism, an online class with skillshare.

On this eerily quiet New York City afternoon, I’m launching my first-ever class with Skillshare, an online learning community with thousands of inspiring classes on topics including illustration, design, photography, video, freelancing, and now, minimalism.

In a moment when so many people are finding themselves spending unprecedented amounts of time at home, I’m glad for the chance to share a free resource to help make this time just a little bit brighter.

In the 35-minute class, I’ll show how paring down the stuff in your home and shifting your relationship to both consumerism and creativity can unlock a life of more—more energy, more savings, and more time to do the things you love. I’ll walk you through my own flexible approach to minimalism. Through actionable steps and exercises, you’ll begin to cultivate a peaceful home environment that works for you.

I’m especially proud of the opportunity the class provides to help folks develop a practice of finding inspiration in what they already have. More than anything, I hope the class provides a sliver of calm in the midst of days that can feel anything but.

Along with access to my class, I’m thrilled to be able to offer readers a free 2-month trial of the entire Skillshare Premium catalog. If ever there were a time to hunker down and learn a new skill, this is it. Please spread the word widely and direct friends and family to https://skl.sh/erin to sign up!

Every time someone signs up for free-trial, Reading My Tea Leaves will earn a small commission that will support the continued work in this space. Thank you for your support of this work.

Brillent timing! We just moved to DC from Italy. We are living without our furniture while we practice social distancing. It was a nice remember as to what we really need or think we need. We have only 2 air mattresses in our small space but things are okay! We joke and say this is coronavirus lockdown take 2.
Good luck, Erin and thanks for the fun class.

Signed up! And watching your trailer, I realized this is the first time I truly understand how your apartment is laid out, despite being a reader for years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Love the point you make in the class – and I think you’ve made it in previous posts – about not keeping anything in your home for a negative reason – guilt, obligation, etc. Now more than ever, home as a haven + positive vibes only. 🙂 Be well!

I don’t use Instagram or other social media, just read blogs/books so perhaps others reading this engage with you in a different way buttt it was really great just to watch your intro video on Skillshare. It made me happy getting to see your personality shine through in a different medium other than your writing & pictures. I’m glad you put in all the effort to put yourself and ideas out into the world! 🙂

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been thinking about you, with a newborn & two kids in a tiny place. Hope you all are doing ok & thanks for the class offer!

Thanks erin! Just started the first lesson! Looking forward to tackling the pain point of mess near the front door… except in my case the culprit is me !
Although, I am about to start working from home so will no longer be packing bags to take out… love a self-solving problem!

I loved your Skillshare class–very thoughtful, well-organized and well-edited to maximize key takeaways (there is WORK involved in making that happen, not easy, so thank you!) ! With many resources focused on minimalism and sustainability today, I think your DIY (practical, less craft-focused) bridge has a strong value proposition and broad appeal. Would love to hear a continued series of lessons with your strong and differentiated point of view!

I just wanted to come back to say that I deeply appreciate your video being subtitled. Unfortunately, I cancelled my membership because nearly every course I picked to watch after yours had no subtitles; I tried at least ten before giving up. I did let Skillshare know my reason for cancelling, so hopefully, they’ll take to heart my suggestion that every teacher should be required to subtitle their course videos. A shame, because the courses did look interesting to me!
