our kids should have that luxury.

very gently, and with great care, coaxing it back to life.

what’s wrong with a few minutes of things being OK?

brilliant forests.

good fire.

Oh wow! That brilliant forests article was written by my friend Becca. She’s a fellow teacher and also writes a great weekly newsletter about sparking children’s love of writing:

Checking out Ditto— thanks! And the chandelier reminds me of the 1963 “Hollywood Regency” chandelier in our 1963 split-level which incongruously combines simple basics (very simple windows, flat panel doors) with very glam trim items. My sister, whose house is maybe 1968 and kind of cool, simple mid-century modern with a lot of wood, saw the house when we moved in and said we should get a new, simple chandelier, but I replied, “Nope, I love our gaudy chandelier.” Eight years later, still do. 🙂 90% of the furniture in our house is second hand, hardly any of it matches, but it kind of works, and so does the over-the-top chandelier. Also, our parakeet loves hanging out on it. 🙂

Thank you for sharing those articles about the fires! I’m a fourth-generation Californian and the past several years have been a grim confirmation of how insufficient our current relationship to the land is. The thing I keep coming back to is that this is a really important time, with so much attention on this issue, to lift up the voices of indigenous fire practitioners and support their leadership. https://www.ehn.org/amp/indigenous-wildfire-2646171110

Re: the NPR art. on plastics not being recycled.
    -Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been trying to minimize my consuming of plastics. That said, since COVID-19 it’s become more difficult as my local bulk shop has stopped their program in which customers can bring their own containers for refilling.
On the other hand, I make my own yoghurt in my Instant Pot, which means yoghurt containers never come into my home.

Yes; our plastics use has gone way up in this time, too.

I made the sheet pan feta over the weekend. So easy and tasty. Will make again! Congrats on your new home!
