my week in objects (mostly).

1. this primed door.

{the nesting continues apace.}

2. this flowering oregano.

{for being at the bodega when i walked by.}

3. these very simple hooks.

{for bibs and helmets and bags of masks.}

4. this bundle of flowers.

{and the first days of fall.}

5. this loaf.

{to be sliced and bagged and made ready for a sale (against all odds).}

other things:

you are not failing. society is. (related!)

a monotonous grid of plastic.

today i feel more beautiful than i ever have before.

the origins of policing.

who doesn’t want to protect children and restore order?

a naked and grotesque expression of what it takes to rise in GOP circles.

 a climate emergency unfolding before our eyes.

    Really appreciate your link roundup (as always).

    The Slate article about QAnon (“who doesn’t want to protect children and restore order”) really hit home for me as I recently learned that some loved ones have fallen into that mess. While the article doesn’t do anything to change that horrifying reality, it gave me some perspective about how alluring those lies are right now, even (especially?) to otherwise kind, compassionate and thoughtful people.

    Ugh.
