gooseneck loosestrife

I’m working from home today. A decision brought on largely by my overwhelming desire to sit in front of a fan and lounge in a thin dress that’s not entirely appropriate for polite company. I’m trading the perks of the office air conditioning for the perks of the at-home lounge. Two options that I realize aren’t so very bad.

I’ve gotten somewhat out of my morning walk routine lately, and this morning the walk lasted only until I stepped outside of my building and realized that the gooseneck loosestrife I’ve been trying to keep from overtaking the front garden has finally bloomed and it’s lovely. Distracted by flowers, perennially.  I gave myself permission to snip a few stems and bring them inside. Perks for being the unofficial gardener, I say. Still: I’m determined to get back into my typical morning routine, and soon.

    For some crazy reason, late last night, when my apartment was finally starting to cool, I decided to bake a pie. Mixing the crust by hand at first cooled me down (a combination of chilled butter and ice-cold water). Turning on the oven, though, was torturous.

    So maybe I don't recommend baking a pie. Only if you have a/c.

    frozen berries as a snack every few hours. they keep you refreshed and satisfied. that and not wearing a bra unless absolutely necessary. also, i think i'm going to join in on the morning walk thing–by the time the heat hits, i can't be bothered, so maybe mornings are the trick!

    I'm not a local but it is going to get to 100 degrees today here. Ugh!
    Iced coffee, strawberries from the farmer's market – sliced and waiting in the fridge, sandwich for dinner, no turning on the oven today!

    not local and not braving any heat today (though CA does have its own brand doing cartwheels outside as i type…9:34am and in the high 70s already) as i *did* have to put on 'polite' clothes and am currently sitting in a chair with wheels in a cube with cloth covered walls. so…corporate a/c it is.

    on another note…DARling lamp!!!

    Ha. Well you see, I survive the heat by living on the canadian prairies where there's only one month of it during the year. Thus we don't really have impolite dresses, but I'm very interested in acquiring one…

    I have a little pack of herbs and rice that I keep in the freezer all day and then put on my neck at night. It's soo nice! And it doubles as a hot pad when I have a headache! xx

    those are beautiful! We have the something similar taking over the side of our house but I'm kind of okay with that.

    I go to cafes with air conditioning and cold drinks; that usually helps.
