Talk too much about self-care and you can expect some eye-rolls. I know, I’ve gotten them. And yet, pregnancy is a time when a body can use some special attention. Things are shifting and growing and morphing on a daily basis and still it can be surprisingly easy to forget to honor those changes. Life marches on, of course. Pregnant or not, there’s work to do, and people to care for, and chores to check off the list. Despite the many very obvious signs that my body is doing exceptional work to grow another human, I still need little reminders to find time for extra comfort and attention to wellness.

In this pregnancy, I’ve added the very lovely Pregnancy Tea from Traditional Medicinals to my daily ritual. Recommended to drink three times, daily, I do my best to carve out those moments, even if it means doing something else at the same time (and it usually does). Note: Because each person’s pregnancy is different, pregnant folk should talk to their healthcare provider about the use of herbal products during pregnancy.sponsored post with traditional medicinals | reading my tea leaves

I brew a cup in the morning as I start my work day, another in the late-afternoon while I’m finishing up the day’s emails, and one more before bed. The tea is a special blend of herbs selected to help tone the uterus and support a healthy pregnancy.* It’s mild and delicious—a blend of organic raspberry leaf, strawberry leaf, stinging nettle, spearmint, bitter fennel fruit, rose hip, alfalfa leaf, and lemon verbena—something I’d be compelled to drink even without a uterus to whip into shape. sponsored post with traditional medicinals | reading my tea leaves

For other common pregnancy woes, Traditional Medicinals has other helpful teas for the brewing: Ginger to relieve nausea, Lemon Balm to relieve indigestion and to relax nerves, and Raspberry Leaf to help tone the uterus.* Traditional Medicinals teas are developed with the help of expert staff herbalists who use traditional techniques to blend herbal teas. The herbalists use high quality USDA-certified organic herbs and Fairwild-certified herbs harvested from their native environments. (You can learn more about all the Traditional Medicinals certifications right here.) sponsored post with traditional medicinals | reading my tea leaves

I’m a particular fan of the teas because they’re free of so-called natural flavors (a surprising rarity in the herbal tea world), they’re easy to find in most grocery stores, and because the packaging they use is made from 100% recycled materials and manufactured using 100% renewable energy. Those little tea bags? Compostable.

If you need me, I’ll be honoring my pregnancy and sipping my tea.

Yes to what Alyssa said regarding TM’s Cold Care Tea. Also, T.M.’s Throat Coat for sore throats, natch. I have turned so many people on to these teas over the years.

I love their teas! I totally agree, their flavors are amazing simply being what they are. I used to drink a cup of “Easy Now” every day (it really did help to calm the nerves, I highly recommend) but then I found out I can’t drink blends with black licorice in it due to heart palpitations, as black licorice can make them worse. You’ve inspired me to find a different blend by Traditional Medicinals! I miss my daily cup! Thanks for the lovely post!

Hi Erin! This may not have been intentional, but I just wanted to say a quick thank you for your gender neutral language surrounding pregnancy (pregnant folks, each person’s pregnancy, etc). The cross-section of people for whom this language applies directly may be small, but the tone you’re setting for an inclusive, welcoming space online benefits everyone. What a lovely little gift to us all! Thank you again!

An edit, I admit, after a kind email from a reader! Love and light to everyone, indeed!

The raspberry leaf tea is also great for after pregnancy because it helps increase your supply. Just a word of warning, however, because raspberry leaf tea helps to tone the uterus, it can bring back your period faster. I was utterly shocked when I got mine two months after giving birth because I was exclusively breastfeeding.

I can’t use this one due to a serious strawberry allergic, but I’ve been drinking my own blend of mint/lavender/lemon balm tea as a substitute for my regular morning coffee and evening tea routine (I’m just into my second trimester).
It’s nice to carve out moments to focus on the pregnancy in a mindful way. This is our first and it’s been a nice way to feel connected to our first baby.

Herbal teas for the win! Ages ago you wrote about an anti-hayfever herbal mix that you made up – i went home THAT day and ordered the necessary herbs and in doing so I discovered the most fabulous online herbal supplies store (win!) I made the tea up for my son and I (and felt pretty witchy and smug – win win!) and it worked (win win win!) and since then I’m a convert and have a whole larder of dried herbs to mix up and use for varying needs (win win win WIN!) My favourite is nettle with liquorice root – deelish! and you’ll never guess what I’m making this afternoon … bubble solution and bees wax candles! Whoop! (early Christmas gift experimenting and perfecting) THANK YOU for the inspiration as always xx
PS – Self Care ROCKS! and it’s so super super important because let’s face it – if you don’t have your health you’ve got nothing! xx

Love Traditional Medicinals! My favorites are Gypsy Cold Care (I pass those out to friends and family at the slightest hint of a sniffle from anyone), Eater’s Digest, and Roasted Dandelion Root (a bitter, almost chocolate-y, almost coffee-y flavor that I love in the afternoon). Great find!
