hibiscus honey

i’ve been wanting to do a post about hibiscus sun tea ever since the weather started getting warmer. unfortunately, save a few delightful weekend days, there hasn’t been too much sun for tea making lately. luckily, the stuff is just as good warm with a spoonful of honey. tart and sweet, here’s hoping it’s a harbinger for sunnier days.

hibiscus tea is amazing. we even made a syrup with it and had it with rum, sparkling water, oranges and lots of ice. the perfect summer drink!

rhianna, it's super easy! i bought dried hibiscus flowers from a local spice shop and just poured boiling tea over them. the flowers are quite large, so once the tea was bright red (doesn't take long!) i just scooped them out with a spoon! and done!

Wow I never thought of that! It sounds delicious, I've only had hibiscus mimosas, but I'll have to try it in tea.

I grew up in Sudan and they called cold hibiscus tea – Karkade! (said, kark a day) and nos nos (not sure about the spelling) is half Karkade half lime juice – nothing lovelier for a hot afternoon!
